Gatherings Held in Town and Suburbs. DANCE AT REDCLIFFS. The members of the Christchurch Sailing and Power Boat Club held a successful dance in the Redcliffs Cnmmunitv Hall on Saturday evening. The cups and prizes won during the past season were presented by the Mayor of Sumner (Mr W. H. Nicholson), the dance room was prettily decorated with the club colours and pennants from other clubs throughout Australia and New Zealand were also displayed. The prises were presented as follows:—Waterwitch Cup, T. T. Gough; Gough Cup, p. Phipps: Cuminings Memorial, A. T. Round; Beanland Cup, R. S. Beveridge; Combined Class Cup, R. S. Beveridge; Commodore's Cup, T. Bassett. Tankards of merit were won by R. S. Beveridge, F. W. Morrison, E. Morrison. W. Webb and C. Monck. Concert and Dance. Mrs Stephenson Temple arranged an enjoyable concert and dance programme at the W.E A. rooms on Saturday evening. A barefooted dance, “ Bubbles,” was performed by Misses Audrev M'Nish and Norma Smith, who also later gave a duo Dutch dance. Miss May Austin’s clever acrobatic dance was a popular item. Mrs Stephenson Temple gave two humorous recitations and songs were given by Miss Sylvia Zimmerman, Miss Maurita Shier and Mr J. S. Temple. A pianoforte solo was given by Miss Eileen O’Keefe. Miss Agnes Shearsbv was the accompanist. Messrs Broad and Woodward provided the dance music. Dance at Riccarton. A dance to raise funds for the Riccarton School diamond jubilee, which will be celebrated early in October, was given on Friday evening in the Riccarton School. Mr W. H. Marsh (chairman), Mr Winter Cole (honorary secretary) and the following committee were in charge of the arrangements, Mesdames Koper, W. Sherwood, Misses I. Brake, M. Bucknell and M. Park, Messrs J. 11. Holmes, 11. Eaton, B. Bucknell, S. Hardy, 11. Brake, C. C. Harrow and H. Stemmer. Mr A. Sutherland was pianist and Mr A. Hunt played extras. There were present: Mesdames W. Wood, W. Sherwood. A. Hunt, L. Wootton, J. H. Holmes, W. Chaney, G. Gawler, G. M’Gregor, S. Hardy, G. Bovill and F. Woods, Misses T. and I. Brake, Betsy Purvis. Phyllis Sherwood, Kitty Brazier, Margaret Wootton, Doreen Bennett, Doreen Smalley, Eileen Harrow, June Priee-Kennedy, Lucy Skerton, Pat Soobie. May Lang, Dorothy Hardy, Milly Exton, Joan Brazier, May Purvis, Ruby Fine, Lois Cole, Jean Busbrulge, .Ruby at.d Mollv Wright, Irene Milner, Lorna Hunt. Elsie Smalley. Phyllis Fine, Marcia Beach, Agnes and Jean Gawler. Anniversary Dance. An enjoyable dance was held by the combined divisions of St John Ambulance, Lyttelton, in the Oddfellows Hall on Saturday night to mark the second anniversary of the formation of the branch in the port. Music was supplied by Wallace's Orchestra and Mr S. Martin was M.C. During the supper adjournment Mr W. T. Fester, patron of the branch, congratulated the members on the completion of a second successful year. He expressed the hope that the branch would soon have its own motor ambulance and that the divisions would continue to prosper. A birthday cake was cut by Mrs F. Bishop, Lady District Superintendent. A competition was won by Miss May Thomson and Mr Louttit and a Monte Carlo v-altz by Miss Rua Seymour and Mr J. Hannah. Mr and Mrs M. Smith were the winners of a lucky spot dance.
