RACING IN ENGLAND.
Close Finish for Chester Cup. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received May 4, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 3. The Chester meeting was continued to-day, when the principal event decided was the Chester Cup. This is the event in which, in addition to the prize money, a champion Cheshire cheese, valued at £5, is given to the owners of the placed horses. The result of the race was:— CHESTER CUP. A handicap of 15 sovs each, with 2500 sovs and a gold cup valued at £SO added; second horse to receive 300 sovs and third horse 200 sovs, from the stake. About two miles and a quarter. DICK TURPIN, Mr R. F. Watson’s ch h by Diligence—Mary Mona 1 GUISCARD, Lord Derby’s b g by Gay Crusader—Selene, svrs .... 2 MAXDRITSARA, Mr M. H. Benson s b h by Sahib—Shannon Fairy, 4yrs 3 Fourteen horses started. Won by a head, with two lengths between second and third.
