TWO GOOD TALKIES.
“ Smoke Lightning ” and “Men are Such Fools.” Two good talkies—a drama, ” Men Are Such Fools,” and a Western, ” Smoke Lightning ’’—are offered at the Liberty Theatre this week. Certainly Tons' Mello, the chief character in “ Men Are Such Fools,” played with feeling, humour and intelligence by Leo Carrillo, was a fool to love his wife, Lili (Vivienne Osborne) so much. She married him only because she thought he would become famous, and could bring- equal fame to her—and then she left him. Carrillo is undoubtedly the greatest exponent of the Latin type at present in films. Others in the cast are Una Merkel, a girl friend. Tom Moore, a kindly plainclothes policeman, and Joseph Cawthorn, who gives one of his humorous German characterisations. George O’Brien is featured in “ Smoke Lightning.” a new type of Western adapted from Zane Grey’s novel. “Canyon Walls.” O’Brien is excellently cast as the cowboy, and adds to his already long list of successes. Frank Atkinson is really funny as Alf. and Betsy King Ross does sqme good work as the rancher’s daughter. The feminine lead is taken by Nell O'Day.
