Beckenham Rink Wins Easter Tourney. CLOSE PLAY IN FINAL. j The Beckenham rink, skipped hi' W Healey, won the Canterbury Bowline , Centre's Easter tourr.amem. which concluded yesterday afternoon on M-e , Christchurch Club’s green. The wind that was blowing in the morning: dropped after noon and playing conditions were much improved when the Beckenham and Riccarton Racecourse rinks bega% play in the final game of the tournament. The play was steady, but not brilliant, in the opening stages, and Racecourse took the lead after three heads had been decided. Playing very steadily, Racecourse gradually increased their lead. There was some brilliant play in the eleventh head. Three touchers were scored and six bowls were placed in a cluster within a radius of one foot of the kitty. Racecourse prevailed, the head adding three to their score. Racecourse 11, Beckenham 5. An adjournment was made for afternoon tea at this stage. Beckenham were in much improved form after the resumption ot play and definitely took charge of the game. The twelfth, thirteenth and fourteenth heads favoured Beckenham, who reduced Racecourse's lead to one point. They continued their run of wins in the fifteenth, in which they gained two, and the score was: Beckenham 12. Racecourse 11. Buck was with Beckenham in the eighteenth head. They were lying three down until Healey played > a slightly narrow shot which looked like making no change in the head, but cannoned off an earlier narrow bowl and cut out three Racecourse bowls, leaving Beckenham to score one. In the next head almost the same thing happened, only this tune the luck was with Racecourse, who scored their first point since the eleventh head. Racecourse added two more points to their score, but Beckenham had the game in hand and, scoring two on the twentyfirst head, clinched the victory. Marlborough Tournament. Per Press Association. BLENHEIM, April IS. in the final of the Marlborough Easter howling tournament, which attracted thirty-six rinks, Russell, of Newtown, Wellington, defeated Sexton, of the same club, 23-16. Others in post section play were Shearer (Lower Hutt), Hargreaves (Rangiora), G. A. Smith (Picton), Haswell (Marlborough), Martella (Marlborough), Grigg (Blenheim), i'oung (Marlborough), Noble Adams (Blenheim), Nicol (Picton) and Mitchell (Blenheim). The weather was glorious throughout and competition was very keen.
