Remits to Dominion
Conference.
The tenth annual conference of the Music- Teachers’ Association of New Zealand is to be held in Dunedin from May 9 to May 12. The business of the conference will include consideration of the following remits:— 1. That special matters apart from ordinary and general business of conference be reserved for meetings arranged by specially appointed committees. (Wellington branch). 2. That it be a recommendation to the University Senate to appoint local examiners for degree examinations in music in future. (Wellington branch). 3. That it be a recommendation to the registration board to reduce the annual subscription to 7s 6d for the time being. (New Plymouth branch). 4. That it be a recommendation to the registration board that teachers’ names shall not be removed from the register for non-payment if they can prove their inability to meet the annual subscription. (New Plymouth branch). 5. That conference appoint a committee to inquire into the possibility of holding a summer school in January, 1934. (Wellington branch). 6. That the M.T.A. offer a prize or prizes, preferably books, for composition by members or students under twenty-fiv>a years of age. for piano, strings, or voice: and further that should the adjudicators consider the composition worthy, the M.T.A. should assist in any way possible other than pecuniary. (Wellington branch). 7. That copies of “Music in New Zealand” to the value of the annual levy be forwarded to all branches for distribution amongst members. (New Plymouth branch) 8. That the excessive amount of homework demanded by schools has a detrimental effect on musical studies. (Otago branch).
