TROTTING NOTES.

DOMINATIONS for the Forburv Park Trotting Club’s winter meeting will close on April 20, at 5 p.m. Nominations for the trotting contests incorporated in the Greymouth JockeyClub’s autumn meeting will close on April 10 at 9 p.m.

Acceptances for the first day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Easter meeting are due on April 11, at noon. The speedy pacing gelding College Boy, who was a sharp disappointment in his recent efforts, has gone to Tinwald to join B Grice’s stable. * * * * Nominations for the trotting events to be decided at the Reefton Jockey Club’s autumn meeting will close on April 12. Entries for the Cambridge Trotting Club’s annual meeting will close on April 12. * * * Sic Nominations for the Wanganui Trotting Club’s annual meeting will close on April 12. * * * * Acceptances for the Hawera Trotting Trotting Club’s meeting are due on April 11. * * * * Sunny Ducrovv has brightened up nicely, thanks to a few days’ rest after her trip to Oamaru: and she is getting through serviceable tasks without hopples. * * * * Mountain Sun (C. G. Lee) gave a useful display of trotting over four laps at Epsom on Tuesday, and looks in good heart for his Te Aroha engagement. Mountain Sun raced promisinglv as a pacer early in the season, and will make his first appearance at the trotting gait on Saturday. NEW SECRETARY, At a meeting of the Cambridge- Trotting Club it was decided to appoint Mr T. 11. Hampshire, of Cambridge, to the position of secretary, which became vacant by the death of the late Mr W. Stopford.

Kelp and Pearl Parrish, who are in the charge of P. Morrison during R. D. Kennerley’s absence at Te Aroha, were given light exercise on the sand at Epsom on Tuesday. Kelp has made a good recovery from his leg injury, and will recommence training on Kennerley’s return. Pearl Parrish has brightened up considerably, and should show improved form next month. A FTXE PERFORMANCE. Whether the performance of F. Smith in training seven winners at the Thames meeting is a record or not cannot be definitely stated, but it was a very fine performance. He took five horses to the meeting, but Carnui and Mazda failed, although some excuse was to be offered for Mazda, as she lightened up considerably after leaving home, and was not raced the second day. Carnui went badly over the last two or three furlongs of his races, and he is not the solid horse he was. and now that he is meeting good horses he is finding it difficult to do any good. Pageant was the hero of the meeting. In four starts he won three times and was once second, and his owner, Mr H. Stafford, has every reason to feel pleased there were no buyers a week or two back, when he wanted to sell the son of Logan Pointer. Pegawav and Raider, the other members of Smith’s team at the meeting, each won a double, and they promise to keep on winning. Pegawav was always recognised as a brilliant horse in the class in which he has been competing, but Raider, while always possessed of a fair turn of speed, displayed improved staying ability. * * * * D. Bennett is now associated with Mr W. Baker's establishment and is busy at Addington getting Katute and Grandlight ready to race. Katute is moving like a machine in her work. Yesterday morning she showed that two miles is not beyond her. Grandlight is in high flesh and will take some time to get ready for serious contests. * * * * The pacing mare, Muriel de Oro, who showed splendid form under F. G. Holmes at Forbury in January and at Addington in February, is now a tenant of E. Berry’s establishment. DISSATISFACTION 7 , The penalising of Pegawav only 12yds for his win in the 3min 28sec mile and a half on the first day at the Thames meeting was a very sore point with owners and trainers of other horses, but the system of handicapping provides for only a 12yds penalty in such classes, and whenever a really good horse comes along the owners of the others will just have to grin and put up with it. What seemed to be even more puzzling was the penalising of Zanzibar 24vds for winning the President s Trot the first day by a neck, and not penalising Bessie Parrish, who finished second. Naturally the mare was regarded as the best of good things on the .second da)’, and she made an exhibition of the field. For her easy win she has been put back 24vds. which is quite correct for the Te Aroha meeting, but. Mr Goosman has also put Zanzibar back 12yds, which is in direct contrast to the treatment given Bessie Parrish when she finished second, states an Auckland' writer.

The way that Honeymoon played with Peterwah in a bout over a mile and a quarter at Addington yesterday morning was an eye-opener to the crowd that assembled to see the match between the trotters. Honeymoon is trotting evenly, never putting a foot wrong. For a horse in his class he* is an exceptional trotter.

FORBURY NOMINATIONS. A Press Association message from Dunedin states that to meet the wishes of owners and trainers the Forbury Park committee has decided to extend the date of receiving nominations for the winter meeting from April 11 to April 20. * * * * The North Canterbury owner, Mr J. W. Frizzell, was at Addington yesterday morning with Great Harvester and an unnamed pacer. Both horses were given three-quarter pace work, both moving well and looking as if they had done a fair amount of toil. WENT VERY WELL. One of the outstanding pieces of work recorded at Addington yesterday was that accomplished by Pageant d’Or. He gave Colonial Boy two lengths’ start and, after travelling two sulky widths from the inside rail all the way, finished within half a length of Colonial Boy at the conclusion of a mile and a half in 3mm 20sec. The initial four furlongs were disposed of in lmin 8 3-ssec and the first mile in 2min Msec. The mile and a quarter was passed in 2min 45 2-ssec and they were not driven out to complete the next two furlongs in 34 3-ssec. Both Colonial Boy and Pageant d’Or are well, but the extra ground Pageant d’Or covered and the way he did his work made his essay a particularly good one. * * * * It is pleasing to note that Checkers is none the worse for his heavy fall on the side of the road on Wednesday He was hoppled up and given serviceable work at Addington yesterday. Lord escaped anv serious injury and is working as usual. * * * * Enawah has vacated her stall at J. Young’s establishment at Addington, rejoining her owner's team at Tamahere. Enawah has a lot of ability, especially over a two-mile journey; but she is a moody pacer and not every day does she go up to her private form. TROTTING FIXTURES: April B—Otautau R.C.
