Gatherings Held in Town and Suburbs. PARTIES FOR BRIDE-ELECT. A kitchen gift afternoon was given by Miss Kathleen Adams at her home in Lyttelton Street recently in honour of Miss Elsie Hornsby, who is to be married this week. An interesting competition was won by Miss Reid. Those present were: Misses Peggy Sim, Carlene Cox, Beatrice Wilkins, Winnie Gilpin, Nellie Reid, Nancy Jones, Ngaire Whittington, Jessie Sheppard and Rhona Cummings. Miss Beatrice Wilkins, Wychbury Street, Spreydon, was hostess at a second party for Miss Hornsby, to which the guests brought gifts for the pantry of the bride-elect. The guests were: Misses Elsie Hornsby, Beatrice Wilkins, Nancy Jones, Beatrice Harris, Nellie Reid, Joan Henderson, Carlene Cox, Eva Sherriffs, Rhona Cummings, Jessie Sheppard, Gladys Searing, Winnie Gilpin, Kathleen Adams. Party at Marshland. On Thursday afternoon, at the residence of Mrs J. Delamain, president of the Marshland branch of the Plunket Society, the local committee gave a party in honour of Mrs Lohrey who has resigned her position as secretary owing to her leaving the district. A happy afternoon was spent. Competitions were won by Mesdames T. Crozier, M. Blank and H. R. Marks. The president (Mrs Delamain) spoke of the interest taken by Mrs Lohrey in the Plunket Society and of the great amount of work done by her in its interest. On behalf of the comihittee, Mrs Delamain asked Lohrey to accept a bronze fruit bowl and a Doulton plate as parting gifts with the best wishes of all. Mrs Lohrey responded. Mrs Sturgiss endorsed what Mrs Delamain had said and also expressed thanks to her for offering her home for the party. Those present were: Mesdames Lohrey, Delamain, W. Sturgiss, H. Watson, D. Boyd, R. H. Monk, W. Andrews, Palmer, E. Treleaven, T. Crozier, N. Treleaven, M. Blank, H. R. Marks and Miss E. Jacob. Bible Glass Social. An enjoyable social evening was given recently by members of the Clarence Road Methodist Senior Young Men’s Bible Class, Riccarton, in the Clarence Road Schoolroom. The social was arranged to raise funds for the juniors’ Easter camp. Games, music and competitions formed the evening’s entertainment. Misses E. Jackson, K. Moore and R. Beswick gave items, and Mr 11. Clark was accompanist. The committee responsible for the arrangements was—Messrs L. Mitchell, Campbell, A. Mercer, R. Leathwick, and B. Counsell. Mr 11. Stevens was M.C. Coming-of-Age Party. A pleasant evening was spent recently at the residence of Mrs G. Fright, Austin Street, Waltham, on the occasion of the twenty-first birthday of her youngest daughter, Mavis. Games, competitions and dancing were held during the evening. The supper room was decorated in blue and lemon. During supper the usual toasts were honoured and the customary key was presented to the guest of honour by her uncle, Mr S. Gallagher.

Fright, C. Currie, B. Fright, F. Tritt, E. Drewery, F. Fright, B. Hosking, K. Mather and Master Douglas Gallagher. Pantry Afternoon. Mrs J. Whyte and Miss M. Gibson, of Sumner, gave a delightful pantry afternoon yesterday for their niece, Miss Doreen Cullen. The party was held at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs G. Cullen, “Melton,” Riccarton. The reception room was beautifully decorated with bowls of asters and michaelmas daisies. Miss Cullen, whose marriage to Mr Noel Wallis will take place shortly, received many useful articles for her future home. Music and competitions were enjoyed. The competition winner was Mrs J. Church. Songs were given by Miss Thelma Whyte (Christchurch) and pianoforte solos by Miss Agnes Whyte. Those present were:—Mesdames .1. Whyte (Sumner). G. Cullen, J. Fry, A. Whyte (St Albans), C. An “impromptu” evening was recently given at Mr and Mrs T. O’Carroll’s flat at St Elmo Courts to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs A. E. Sheehy, Riccarton, who will leave for Westport this morning. ' Mandolin items were given by the guest of honour. Mr M. O’Carroll made a presentation to Mr B. Sheehy as a mark of esteem from his friends.. Those present included:—Mesdames T. O’Carroll, M. Cunneen, N. Hill, Kelly; Misses J. O’Carroll, Agnes and Kathleen Cunneen; Messrs T. O’Carroll, M. O’Carroll, R. Blake and Noel Cunneen.
