IN HIS 104TH YEAR.
Mr Josiah Keys Led an Adventurous Life. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, March 2. Mr Josiah Keys, who would have celebrated his 104th birthday in July, died at his home in Toiro, South Otago, this morning. Deceased was born in County Tyrone on July 30, 1829. He went to America in 1847, and narrowly escaped the draft instituted by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War. Later he had an adventurous life in Cuba as manager of a sugar estate. Mr Keys returned to England in 1870, and sailed for New Zealand in 1880 in the ship Nelson. On arrival, he settled on a farm at Toiro. Deceased has lived in the reign of five British Sovereigns.
