Christchurch had a real taste of slimmer yesterday and last evening, when breathless heat made the city S^ re^er ‘ Thousands were driven to the beaches in the evening. About ten o clock, however, a southerly sprang an d made the heat less unbearable. The wind held till this morning, and continued to blow. It was not cold enough to deter people from seeking more coolness in the sea, and from early in the morning trams were crowded with people armed with swimming gear, heading for the surf.
