Do We Fear Russia?
Dear Sir,—Mr Howard said recently that we fear Russia, and we don’t know why. We don’t fear Russia. Most people pity the Russians. He said we fear them because they are being regenerated. That was a serious admission for a Socialist to makeafter fifteen years of Socialism they needed regenerating. It doesn’t say much for Socialism, and it doesn’t say much for New Zealanders to say that we fear them because they are being regenerated. We don’t fear them, and certainly not because they are being regenerated. We would rather help them than fear them. Most people Arc: fed up about hearing about Russia. There must be something not quite right about the Russian form of government, otherwise the Socialists would not think it necessary to be always excusing, defending and explaining it. The Russians must manage their own affairs. One thing sure is that notwithstanding all the claptrap of the Socialists, New Zealanders will never follow the example of Russia.—l am, etc., X.
