WILL STOP STATIC.

Scientist Produces “ Miracle Tube.” LONDON, January 6. Mr R. Watson-Watt, superintendent of the Radio Research Station, has demonstrated before the Imperial Institute, a “ miracle tube ”, designed to eliminate static from wireless receivers and flickering from television pictures. Mr Watt denounced atmospherics as “ the radio criminal ”. “We are discovering his features, drawing his portrait, and circulating it, just as Scotland Yard does, in order to capture him and end his mischief,” he explained. The tube also registers, within thirty seconds, storms and lightning flashes within a radius of 3000 miles, thus permitting more accurate weather forecasting and safer flying.

The device increases the certainty of locating ships in distress and of tracing disturbing wireless stations and enemy positions in wartime. It costs £7 10s.

COMPOSITE ARTICLES.

Great Britain Will Permit Importation.

LONDON, January 6. The Board of Trade will shortly make an order permitting Empire composite articles to be imported into Great Britain under the Ottawa agreements. It is understood that the general level of Empire content will be 50 per cent, subject to provision for variations affecting individual industries. The dominions are expected to reciprocate in respect to British composite products. The British order will be subject to revision in respect to individual industries, if home manufacturers can show that it does not protect them adequately.
