RABBIT FARMING FOR PROFIT.

(By “LAPIN.”) SatlmelMtlo Meeting. The monthly meeting of the C.R.B.A. was held last Thursday evening, the president, Mr W. G. Wright, presiding. For the first meeting of the year the attendance of over eighty was very satisfactory and the keen interest shown in the matters discusaed was ample indication that the association can rely on the support of a most enthusiastic membership in the future. The following new members were elected: Messrs M. M’Laren, R. Hutchings, N. Oldershaw and D. Sloan. Mr J. E. Archer reported that the association’s annual picnic, held at Mr Dawber”s residence on Boxing Day, was an outstanding success, both socially and financially. The secretary, Mr J. E. H. Cox, rs- - members that in future association matters would be attended to at the offices of the New Zealand Fur and Angora Wool Producers’ Control Board, 118, Lichfield Street, Christchurch, and that he would not be in attendance at the club rooms on Wednesday afternoons, as previously advised. He also reported that further returns had been received from English mills for two consignments of Angora wool forwarded by the association some time ago, and that payments for supplies by members were now obtainable. The chairman gave a brief report of his work in establishing branches of the association in Auckland and Dannevirke. He also explained the working of the largest farm of Angoras in New Zealand, which he had inspected while in the North Island. Mr Wright was accorded a vote of thanks for his work on behalf of the association in the north. The chairman reported that the offer of the association to the Canterbury Disabled Soldiers’ Rehabilitation Committee to provide free of cost to three disabled soldiers selected by the committee sufficient stud Angoras to enable them to commence immediately Angora wool farming on a profitable basis had been accepted. The selected soldiers had received the necessary training in Angora wool farming and were ready to commence operations immediately. In addition, he stated that Mr A. H. Wheeler, Styx, had offered to donate to the soldiers a number of specially selected Tivicata lucerne plants free, to enable them to provide for a greater number of stock than they would otherwise be able to. Mr Wheeler’s offer was accepted with thanks. The chairman’s request for offers to donate stud Angoras received ready response, the following members making donations: Misses Andrews and Wright, and Messrs Archer, Bond, Cox, jCowan, Dawber, Gutteridge, Lewis, Hepworth, Lunn, Leathwick, Lawrence, M’Laren, Mitchell, Miles, Newell, Pratt, Rickerby, Reed and Pipe, Rathie, Salt, Thorpe and Wright. The chairman thanked the donors fpr their generosity. A demonstration of grooming, shearing and grading of Angora wool was given by Mr J. E. H. Cox. Mr Cox emphasised the necessity for extra care in the grading of the wool, and gave a number of hints which would enable the highest prices to be obtained. Mr Cox was accorded a vote of thanks. *: « ** Botes. In connection with the establishment of three disabled returned soldiers on Angora wool farms, it is understood that Messrs Jeyes Sanitary Compounds, Ltd., have donated a valuable trophy to be presented to the returned soldier showing the greatest financial returns from Angora wool farming during the first twelve months. This offer will, no doubt, be much appreciated by the

soldier Angora farmers and will considerably stimulate their interest. 22 2 The next inspection afternoon to be conducted by the C.R.B.A. will be held next Saturday afternoon, when members will be taken for a tour of the Sydenham, Linwood and Heathcote rabbitries. All interested are invited to attend, and conveyances will te provided. Conveyances will leave the association’s rooms, Hereford Street, at 2.30.
