Preparatory Work for World Economic Conference. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, January 12. It is hoped that the French experts will similarly produce concrete proposals which will lead to a definite formula. The American delegates hope that the European Powers will reach some arrangement regarding war debts before the Economic Conference meets. If a satisfactory agreement on debts is reached, America will probably entertain the idea of lower tariffs, but, at the same time, she will require Britain to stabilise sterling, if not on a gold if. 13 ; *ken °n a determined basis which will not admit of insecurity The correspondent adds: "The feeling of optimism is justified that this is a new Geneva—a Geneva faced with catastrophe, and that all parties are prepared to make concessions."
