SPECIAL PARKING AREA.
For Watching Outboard Racing. The increasing popularity of the outboard racing on the Estuary at Redcliffs has presented a problem in car parking that has for some months been a source of anxiety to the local authority. With the course starting and finishing just below the road which overlooks the water near Shag Rock, a great deal of congestion has hitherto taken place near one of the worst corners of the borough of Sumner. Frequently the local traffic inspectors have had their authority abruptly challenged and considerable annoyance has resulted to both parties. In anticipatioh of larger crowds to watch the speed tests, the Sumner Borough Council has now had the whole of this special parking area defined with white lines painted on the tar-sealed road between the Sumner-Redcliffs Rowing Club’s sheds and the approach to Shag Rock Corner. This provides an area parallel to the tram track extending for a length of several chains and gives accommodation for motor-bicycles at each end. It is specially designed to avoid the narrower portions of the road and affords a clear passage to the sharp ber.d at Shag Rock, at the same time giving the motorists a ‘‘gallery seat” from whjch to watch the whole of J.ie course.
