LATE MRS B. HAMPTON

The death occurred recently at her residence, St James Street, Southbridge, of Mrs Benjamin Hampton. The deceased lady, who was seventy-six years of age, was born in Porta Down, Ire- 1 land, and came to New Zealand in 1875, at the age of nineteen years. She married Mr Benjamin Hampton in 1877 and for a time they lived at ‘‘Bushey Park,” Ashburton, but in 1878 they settled at Dobbin’s Ford, near Southbridge, where they were farming for over ten years, later removing to the Southbridge Township, where Mrs Hampton resided for forty-four years. Mr Hampton died sixteen years ago. Mrs Hampton is survived by five daughters and three sons. They are Mesdames W. Green, M. Hintz, W. C. Hickman and Miss Olive Hampton (Southbridge) and Mrs S. J. Simpson (Wellington), Messrs R. Hampton (Southbridge), G. E. Hampton (Leeston) and James Hampton (Wellington). Mrs Hampton also leaves a brother, Mr J. H. Hampton (Little Rakaia) and a sister who resides in the Old Country. The funeral took place at the Ellesmere Cemetery, the services at St James’ Anglican Church and at the graveside being conducted by the Rev C. L. Wilson. The pall-bearers were the three sons-in-law, Messrs W. C. Hickman, M. Hinty, S. J. Simpson and a grandson, Mr Randal Green.
