FIREBLIGHT PEST.
Grant to Assist Fight Against Menace. At the meeting of the Canterbury Fruitgrowers’ Association last night, a request was made by Mr E. A. Stead, a member of the Fireblight Committee, for a further loan of £lO to carry on the work. ,He stated that the blight was still prevalent in the district. The committee did not receive any money till the tax was collected next Tune or July. Mr Freeman: Seeing that this committee is doing good work, I move that the sum of £lO be granted. It is really a job for the city authorities. Mr F. Cone, in seconding the motion said it was quite evident that the work of fireblight extinction must be kept on. It entailed a tremendous amount of effort. The blight was already all over Canterbury in isolated cases. The motion was carried, one member voting against it. Mr Stead intimated that*the money would be paid back without interest.
