SLIMMING AND HEALTH.

Interesting Talk by Miss Kathleen Court. CARE OF THE HAIR. A further talk o nhealth and beauty was given yesterday afternoon at the D.I.C. by Miss Kathleen Court, beauty and cosmetic specialist, who again lectured to a large audience of interested women.

The care of the hair was fully discussed by Miss Court, who laid special stress upon the importance of using the right shampoo. Dandruff, -which many people thought w r as an acquired disease, was due largely to the use of the wrong soap and shampoo, she said Men suffered from the complaint more than women, owing to the haphazard way in which the majority washed their hair, but dandruff was also prevalent among women. Under a microscope it could be seen that a hair had tiny tendrils, on the ends of which were pores. If these became clogged through the film which harsh soap left upon them, the hair could not breathe and dandruff resulted. Two other minor causes of dandruff were the wearing of a hat too often and for too long, and also insufficient brushing of the hair. All heads of hair should receive a good brushing at least once a week, said Miss Court. Encouraging Slimness.

Another subject which made a wide appeal to her audience was that of keeping slim. Of the many hundreds of letters which she had received, about 75 per cent were requests for details of slimming, said Miss Court. There was no reason why a woman should put on weight. Miss Court gave a number of valuable hints on how to encourage slimness, which, of course, was coupled with good health. Walking, of all the exercises, was the best, she said. Water should be drunk in large quantities, at least ten glasses a day, A number of exercises were given by the lecturer. The application of the correct makeup was demonstrated on a model, who afterwards went among the audience for close inspection. At the conclusion of the demonstration a large number of women applied for the br % auty charts upon which Miss Court marked the preparations suitable for their individual types.

This afternoon Miss Court will continue her lecture-demonstration at the D.1.C., when she will deal with superfluous hair and other subjects of particular interest to women.
