HOME ECONOMICS.
Miss J. M. Shaw gave an interesting and useful demonstration of Christmas cookery to members of the Home Economics Association last evening in the Gas Company’s rooms. She was assisted in the preparation of the various dishes by Miss Junker. In addition to the dishes which Miss Shaw made at the meeting were a large number of tempting dishes which had been prepared earlier and were attractively set out on the display table, amidst vases of Iceland poppies, in front of the members. There were meat shapes, pies and savouries, jellied fruits and attractive sweets, as well as some prettily decorated Christmas cakes and creamfilled sponges. Miss M. A. Blackmore expressed the sentiment of all present when she thanked Miss Shaw for her instructive and interesting demonstration. The competition for the evening —most economical and nutritious recipe made from one pound of beefsteak —brought in some well thought out and delicious entries.
