Nijni-Novgorod Re-named After Him. MOSCOW, September 30. Among the honours which the Soviet Government has heaped on Maxim Gorki, the Russian novelist and playwright, is the re-naming after him of his birthplace, Nijni-Novgorod. He is celebrating his jubilee. Gorki, whose real name is Alexei Maximovich Pveshkov, is now a Commissar of the Soviet. In the days of the Tsars he attracted unfavourable, notice from the authorities by his writings on revolution and the peasant classes.
