SCHOOL ATHLETICS.

High School Sports Held Yesterday. TWO RECORDS BROKEN. The annual sports of the Christchurch Boys’ High School were held yesterday at the school grounds, Straven Road The tracks were slightly greasy after a fairly heavy shower of rain in the morning, and a cold easterly wind was not conducive to fast times. The meeting Was the first of the secondary schools’ athletic season and no comparison of form could be made. As it wa3, only two records were broken, both in the junior section. Junior champion in 1928, J. G. Rankin captured the senior championship with 19 points, winning the 4 40yds, SSOyds and mile events, and coming second in the long jump and third in throwing the cricket ball. C. A. Tweedie, who captured the 100yds, 220yds and 120yds hurdles and scored a third in the 440yds, was runner-up with 16 points. G. B. Eathorne was third with., 14 points. Points for the junior championship were widely distributed and the result was always in doubt. Mainly owing to his victory in the cross-country event, G. R. Buchanan emerged the winner with 15 points. He won the 440yds and the 880yds In addition. E. W. Barr was next with 13 points. The organisation of the meeting was of the same high standard as in previous years, and a lengthy programme with large entries in every event was run oft in good style. The school band played during the afternoon. The prises were presented by Mrs C. E. Bevan-Brown.
