HIGHWAYS FUND.

League to Protest Against Abolition. The proposal in the report of the National Expenditure Commission to abolish the Highways Fund and pay all revenue into the Consolidated Fund was considered by the Highways Committee of v the Canterbury Progress League at a meeting yesterday.. It was resolved to take iitimediate steps to register an effective protest against the proposal, and to this end it was decided to call a meeting of all the local bodies of Canterbury. The committee is preparing a special report on the subject, and copies will be in the hands of local bodies in Canterbury, and probably throughout New Zealand, within a week or ten days.
