SUMMER TIME SOON.
Half-hour Considered to be Ideal. Summer time starts three weeks from to-morrow. From two o’clock in the morning of the second Sunday in October until two o’clock in the morning of the third Sunday in March on the following year, the clocks will be advanced half an hour. No legislation is now necessary to bring summer time into effect, the Act prox-iding for it automatically operating until such time as the existing legislation pertaining to it is rescinded. It is not considered in political circles that there will be any change in the present legislation, which has effected a compromise between the various interests affected. Experience has taught that the half-hour is sufficient, giving just the right amount of time for relaxation. These views were expressed by a prominent business man to-day. IFc pointed out that excessively long summer evenings tended to an overdose of sport, with the result that workers were unable to give a full day’s work. With the present arrangement, he found no fault, and considered that it was as near ideal as could be desired.
