SPORTS COMMITTEE MEETS.
At a general meeting of the City Council Reserves (Burwood Park) Carnival and Sports Committee held on Thursday evening, the following executive officers were elected: Chairman, Mr L. Moore; vice-chairman, Mr W. Moore; secretary, Mr G. S. Ellis; organiser, Mr J. Pullan. It was decided to write to the Mayor asking him to accept the office of patron, and to ask Mr M. J. Barnett (Superintendent of Reserves) to accept the office of vice-patron. The secretary was instructed to write to the assistant town clerk and ask him to accept the position of auditor. Two members of the committee were instructed to visit the various gangs of the Reserves Department workers regarding the carnival and sports raJly and to solicit their support. The secretary was instructed to write to the town clerk asking permission to use Linwood Park as the sports ground and to make a charge of a silver coin on Labour Day. The object of the sports rally is to secure funds for a Christmas treat for the children of workers employed under the No. 5 scheme in the City Council Reserves Department.
