OVER 200 PLACED

Boys Receiving Offers of Work. Two hundred and eleven boys have been placed in employment by the Boys’ Employment Committee of the Chamber of Commerce since the campaign for absorbing boys in industry was started about a fortnight ago. A number of firms which put off hands owing to slackness of business have taken them on again, and one large firm which had been working its staff half-time has now decided to work full time, in order to assist the campaign. Mr 11. P Donald, honorary organiser of the committee, stated to-day that the campaign for finding work for boys would be continued during the selling campaign in September. If the public would rise to the occasion and buy freely the whole scheme should be a great success. Many employers who had taken on boys from the bureau at the Y.M.C-A. had stated that they were very satisfied with their work. Boosting the Campaign. At 9 o’clock on Monday morning, twenty or thirty unemployed boys will commence on a campaign that should provide them with a little money. They are to be supplied with posters for the youth employment campaign, booster strips, and cards from the Tramway Board with particulars of the concession fares. The boys will try to sell the posters, and distribute the strips and cards to all the shopkeepers. They are to receive a commission on what they sell, so all shopkeepers are asked to help them by purchasing the wares of these boys. If all the shops display the booster strips, it is estimated that the total length exhibited will be about 2§ miles.
