“IT’S TOO TERRIBLE.”
Woman Sobs at Misery of Unemployed. “ I cannot tell you more. The cases are too terrible! ” declared Mrs C. Clark, as, sobbing, she sank back into her chair after speaking as a member of the deputation from the unemployed to the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) this morning. I The case which upset Mrs Clark most was that of a family who had come to her for succour. Mrs Clark said that she could do little, as her husband himself was on relief work, but she gave the woman some sausages from an almost empty safe. The hungry family, in, v'hich were several children, had taken the sausages home and, having no firing with -which to cook them, spread them raw on the children’s bread to serve as butter.
Mrs Clark cited, also, the case of an expectant mother who, after standing for four hours at a relief depot, had been told that there were no rations left.
