REWARDS FOR BRAVERY
Humane Society Considers Smart Rescues. The Court of Directors of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand, at its meeting yesterday," considered acts of bravery performed by men who saved people from drowning. Canon W. S. Bean presided. Only one award was made from the three cases, William Harold Nairn being awarded the so-
ciety’s certificate. It was decided to forward letters of commendation to the remaining two, Oscar Ramsted and Arthur Ilinehco. The circumstances of the cases were as follow: Oscar Ramsted, a watersider, of Wellington, rescued George Turner, a seaman, of the s.s. Komata, from drowning at the railway wharf, Wellington, on April 20, 1932. Turner fell overboard from the Komata. William Harold Nairn, a service car proprietor, of Hawke’s Bay, rescued Thelma Jessie Campbell, of Dannevirke, from drowning at Porangahau beach on January 10, 1932, and was awarded the society’s certificate. Arthur Hincho, a butcher, of Onehunga, rescued Jack Bernasconi from drowning at Gribblehurst Park, Auckland, on September 12, 1931 y
