TROTTING NOTES.

'TRACK WORK at Addington this morning appears on another page * * * *

Nominations for two trotting events to be decided at the Otago Hunt meeting close on August 5. * * * v Entries for the New Brighton Trotting Club’s spring fixture close on August 18, at noon. * * * * N. C. Price is tuning-up Peter Locanda for his engagement at Addington. Peter Locanda won a mile and five furlongs race at the Relief trotting meeting, and is very well at present. HAS A BIG FUTURE. E. C. M’Dermott has recommissioned the very promising four-year-old trotter Garner, who looks bonny after her holiday. * * * * The big pacing gelding Donard is beginning to shape up satisfactorily under N. C. Price at New Brighton. USEFUL WORK. Aristotle accompanied Great Nelson in a bout over ten furlongs at Addington yesterday afternoon. Both horses went solidly all the way. The time was 2min 57 3-ssec, the last mile being done in 2min 20sec. lIIS NEW TRAINER. L. Denton was present at Addington yesterday afternoon with the pacer Great Logan, who was sent a mile in 2min 15sec. He paced well within himself all the way. WILL TIE COME BACK? Acre is bowling along as if he means business. This capable gelding can go fast enough to win races, but his delicate constitution has prevented him from acting up to expectations. Now that he is a year older Nature may have strengthened him, in which case he will win a race at the spring functions. SPECTATORS HAPPY. . Spectators at Addington have been on tenterhooks regarding the ability of Auto Machine. Yesterday afternoon his trainer, A. Brown, sent the Australian pacer a serviceable mile and a half, and that pleased them immensely. Along with Great Parrish, Impromptu and Playwave, Auto Machine paced twelve furlongs in high-class style, and, though the watch read 3min 27 l-ssec, it was not the time he did, but where he did it and how he did it that sent the small assembly home happy. WILL BE READY. Great Parrish will not lack condition for his August assignments. Yesterday he compassed a mile and a half in 3min 27 l-ssec, and was going well at the finish. COMING ON. Muriel de Oro was responsible for a solid effort over a mile and a half at Addington yesterday afternoon. In the middle of the track she reeled off twelve furlongs in 3min 29sec, and was full of running at the end.

The pacer Somerby has a pleasing style of pacing without the assistance of the hopples. He should race well at the Addington fixture. PROMISING CANDIDATE. R. B. Berry has the four-year-olcl Lord Leslie in splendid buckle for his engagement on Saturday, when he will be required to measure strides with those of his age over a mile and a quarter. OVER DU E. Cyone is a reliable mare, and the manner in which she is pacing in her w’ork suggests early victory. Her great finishing run at the end of a mile and a quarter contest at the Relief meeting points to her being prominent during the August meeting. CAN TF IIE LIKES, Harvest Child is a very capable pacer, and the easy manner in which he swings along makes one ponder over his chance on race-days. It is only a question of Harvest Child’s racing up to his private essays to shock the opposition. A LIKELY WINNER. One has often heard of the quotation of horses going so fast as to almost set the track on fire. At New Brighton Eureka Boy has been accomplishing things that are akin to the quotation. Track watchers at the seaside state that he has been able to,go sensational speed for some time, and, as a few chipped in, “to our sorrow.” Eureka Boy is engaged in the t-en furlongs race for four-year-olds, to be decided at Addington on Saturday', and should he elect to do his best, he will be first. * * * * The pacing mare, Margaret Bingen, is a recent addition to N. C. Price’s team at New Brighton. Margaret Bingen has plenty of ability, but she has spoilt good prospects by jigging on the mark. If Price can induce her to begin correctly she should pay him for his tutoring. * * * * The work in connection with putting in a sleeve at the southern end of the training track at New Brighton is well in hand. It will be used for giving horses barrier education, and later on, it is the club’s intention to extend the southern portion of the training track to within the inside of the course proper. This will effect a marked improvement in the training track, and do away with the sharp bend that is a fault with that part of the present inside circuit. ANNUAL REUNION. The annual reunion of the Canterbury Owners’ and Breeders’ Association will be held at 8 p.m. next Monday, at the Scottish Society’s Hall. The annual distribution of trophies will take place during the evening. Tickets may lie obtained from Mr G. S. Simpson, the honorary secretary. TROTTING FIXTt'RES. August 6. 10. 12—N.Z.M.T.C.
