APPEAL FOR ORPHANAGES
A meeting of the executive of the Combined Orphanages’ Appeal was held yesterday afternoon, Mr J. L. Hay presiding. Final arrangements for the appeal, which will be made on Friday, were completed. Mr A. G. S. Gibbs reported that 500 collectors were ready and more were corhing in. There was no fear of a lack of collectors. In answer to a question from Mrs C. Ogilvie, Mr Gibbs said that 700 collectors were needed. All the most important points were staffed.
The chairman said the radio evening would be a great success. Many people had signified their intention to arrange parties in their homes. On the night of the broadcast, it would be made clear that collection envelopes should be sent in by Thursday. In connection with the broadcast, it would be mentioned that anyone who could not send an envelope in would be able to give it to collectors, who would call. A letter was received from Christchurch Cinemas, Ltd., enclosing six complimentary tickets as prizes for the best collectors. An offer of a cake for a raffle had been accepted, said the chairman. The cake had been made by Mr Mark Rolls, who was now selling tickets.
