(“Star” Radio.) SYDNEY, August 2. The Sydney weekly wool summary states that the new season’s wool from New South Wales is now arriving on i the market in good quality; shearing being ahead of last year. The indications are that the New South Wales clip this season will be greater than last year. The clip so far indicates wool in lighter condition, sound and well grown. There is not the wool held over in London as in the two previous years, the report states. There is room for optimism. Very much higher pride levels are needed, however. The prospects have improved. There is a good French demand for fine wools. The roster for the opening sales commencing on August 29 provides for an offering of an average of 11,500 bales per day. TOBACCO LEAP. (Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, August 2. An order has been sent by a leading English firm of cigarette manufacturers for a trial shipment of 50<701b of the best New Zealand cigarette tobacco leaf for experimenting in turning out a new brand of high-grade English cigarette. Very reluctantly the New Zealand agents have had to reply that the order cannot be fulfilled, the reason being that the entire output of fine tobacco in the Dominion is absorbed under contract by locally operating concerns, leaving no surplus available for export. SUCCESS OP MEN ON THE KAWAEAU. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, August 1. Last week’s activities have considerably augmented the total of gold won since the Kawarau dam was closed three weeks ago. Miners are not disclosing their results, but there are persistent rumours that one party, of two men, working in the vicinity of the Old Meg and Annie claim, secured lOOoz. Both are most reticent, but one declares that he will never forget the 1932 Kawarau closing. Others are meeting with varying success, a number of parties of two getting up to 1 Ooz for the week. Unfortunately the total won will never be known in the absence of proper control by the unemployed authorities. Okarito Wash-up.

The Okarito Five Mile Beach Gold Dredging Co. reports a wash-up of 33 ounces ldwt for 117 hours’ work.
