“ PRESIDENT’S NIGHT.”

Commercial Travellers’ Social Held. Members of the Canterbury Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association attended at their club in large numbers .on Saturday evening, when the annual “President’s Night” was held. The president, Mr A. L. Tucker, presided. Congratulations to the president on the way in which he had furthered the interests of the association were extended to Mr Tucker by Mr G. H. Christie, immediate past president. Mr Christie said that Mr Tucker had taken charge of the affairs of the association during a perilous period. lie appealed to members to continue their support in order that the remainder of Mr Tucker’s term might be attended with success. Replying to the toast of his health, Mr Tucker stressed the need for an increased membership. He described the benefits which were given by membership of the' association, especially in regard to the relief fund and the work done in finding employment. A presentation was made to Captain A. W. Owles, one of the oldest members of the association, who has retired from active work. Other toasts honoured were:—“The Visitors,” proposed by Mr A. M. Shennan and replied to by Messrs H. D. Acland (New Zealand Sheepownfers’ Federation), L. B. Hart and R. B. Walker (Canterbury Automobile Association), H. Fleck and E. F. Willcox (Returned Soldiers’ Association), A. Manhire (Federal Club) and G Watson (president of the United Commercial Travellers’ Association of New Zealand) ; “ The Performers,” proposed by Mr C. E. Hattan and replied to by Mr K. Hore; and “The Press,” proposed by Mr K. Connor. Items were given by Messrs K. Sharpe, A. Taylor, K. Hore, L. Cummins, L. Campbell, J. J. Flewellen, K. Connor and B. Crowhurst.
