It is expected that the present contractor will finish operations at the Opihi railway -bridge in about five weeks’ time, when the work will be taken over by the Public Works Department. Yesterday workmen were engaged in placing the twenty-fifth pier out of a total of forty required. On the approach to the northern end the permanent way has been laid down and a portion is also laid at the southern end.
