Rate Reductions.

To the Editor. Dear Sir, —I see only a 10 per cent reduction of rates is proposed. It is enough. The council takes great credit to itself for Christchurch being cheaper in rates than other centres. This is farcical. Other centres are on a mineral formation, all being hilly and work expensive. If the council advised its experts that that failure to reduce rates 20 per cent meant a 20 per cent reduction in official salaries you would find the thing would be done. The employees seem to rule the council.—l am, etc., EGERTON.
