TROTTING NOTES.

■VTOMINATIONS for the relief meeting at Addington will close on Monday, at 8 p.m. * * * * Tactless has been spending a few weeks at New Brighton, where his new owner has been building him up in condition preparatory to placing him in R. Humphreys’s hands to be got ready for early spring contests. AN EARLY WINNER. The four-year-old gelding Guyziah is : regarded as the unlucky performer at the recent meeting at Ashburton. Fie : certainly looked a winner when he faltered* in the straight, a firm fact that ( will be in the minds of speculators when he steps out over a similar journey under similar conditions at Oamaru to-morrow. * * * * The next meeting of the New Zea- ‘ land Trotting Association will be held j in Wellington on Tuesday, July 12, at 2.30 p.m. * * * * The two-year-old Ronald Derby went a good race for ten furlongs at Ash- ( burton. It is B. Jarden’s intention to , keep the youngster going for the relief meeting after which he probably will be treated to a spell. * * * * The five-vear-old mare Lena Thorpe | has been responsible for some consistent performances, but has just failed to catch the judge’s eye. As consistency usually is amply rewarded, it would not occasion a surprise to see her among the prize-earners at Oamaru. SEASIDE HOLIDAY. Harold Logan has been spending the winter months at New Brighton, where he daily saunters along the beach at Pleasant Point, inspects the estuary and returns to his seaside home. The change has been most beneficial. He will, in the course of a few days, rejoin R. Humphreys’s team at Templeton, to be tuned up for August contests. A LIKELY SORT. Great Seaman has recovered from the injuries he received while contesting an event at Waimate some time ago. He is a big five-year-old gelding by Man o' j ; War from a mare by Great Audubon, i and showed a glimpse of decent form • when he chased Red Spur home in her , initial victory at Waimate. , FROM lIUTT PARK. The Wellington-owned pacing geldt n ’ 5 Pride, is due to arrive at B. Jarden’s stable in a few days. - c Pride has not raced * for some time. He is well forward in condition, and is labelled to sport silk in August. Logan's Pride is assessed at 2min lOsec, 2min 43sec and 4min 29sec. so he is eligible to compete in select company. MAV STAY. Indian Author is thriving on racing;; and is being kept to the collar with a j ; view to contesting a two mile event at i the relief meeting at Addington.

Though never likely to be a robust individual, Lindbergh has built up a little since he last raced. He is bright and healthy, and has resumed work under C. S. Donald at Belfast. * * * * The trotting gelding Writer has been fired and turned out for a good spell. Writer is a fast trotter and a good stayer, and so it is hoped that the operation will lead to his standing up to the necessary essays to equip him for stern contests at the summer gatherings. AUSTRALIAN ARRIVES. The Australian-bred pacer, Auto Machine, who is held on lease by Mr A. Brown from Mr J. Sheehan, arrived at Addington from Auckland yesterday morning to continue his preparation for contests in the best company at Addington. Auto Machine is a useful J pacer, who will add to his winning list at headquarters. * * * * Chenwood is in beautiful order for immediate engagements. In his two recent starts he won in attractive style over a mile and a half at Oamaru, and w’as squeezed into third place over a similar journey at Ashburton. Tomorrow, he is scheduled to appear in a mile and a quarter at Oamaru. The class will suit him and he should be very hard to beat. APTLY PLACED. Since his convincing victory at Timaru, Te Kinga has shown a lot of brilliancy in twelve furlong events, but has just failed to see out the last furlong. In view of that, he is aptly placed on the front of a mile and a quarter race to be decided at Oamaru to-morrow. The finish between Te Kinga and Chenwood should be interesting. GOOD CHANCE. N. L. Price has the pacing gelding Hard Words in perfect order for his engagement over a mile and a quarter at Oamaru to-morrow. It will be remembered that Hard Words was successful at Oamaru in the autumn. * * * * Since his last appearance at Addington, Kingcraft has been staying with his owner at Tinwald, where he has had pleasure sandwiched with light work. Age is doing its part for Kingcraft. He will return to D. Withers’s establishment early in July, to be toppeed off for August engagements.
