Mr H. H. Oram (Palmerston North) is .staying at United Service Hotel. Messrs C. G. Meyers (Palmerston North) and R. E. Rickerbv (Auckland) are staying at the Royal Hotel. Mr L. R. C. Macfarlane, president of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand, left by the Aorangi on Tuesday on a business trip to Suva. A motion of sympathy with the secretary, Mr 11. L. Dartbn, in his illness was passed . t the annual meeting of the Canterbury xlorticultural Society last evening. Visitors staying at the New City Hotel include:—Messrs 11. G. Wickes (Palmerston North), F. G. Douglas (Wellington), D. Smalley (Dunedin) and C. T. Brown (Otira). Mr 11. M. Rush worth, M.P. (Bay of Islands) and Mrs Rushwortli, who were expected in Christchurch to-morrow, will not now arrive until Saturday, July 9. Mr Maurice Ralph, South Island manager for J. C. Williamson, Ltd , returned to Christchurch from Wellington this morning, having completed the New Zealand tour of Bcnno Moiseiwitsch, the Russian pianist. Tributes to the work for the society of Messrs R. Nairn and W. J. Humm were paid at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Horticultural Society last evening. Both Mr Nairn and Mr Humm were ejected life members. The Rev J. R. Ilervey, vicar of Shirley, has returned from New Brighton, where he has been recuperating after his long illness. He will resume his ministry at St Stephen’s Church on the Sunday in July. Messrs H. Fleck. G. A. Hayden, W. E. L-eadley and E. F. Willcox, delegates from the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association to the annual :onference of the Dominion R.S.A. held in Wellington this week, returned to Christchurch to-day. Mr G. W. Lloyd, the other Christchurch delegate to the conference, is expected to return from Wellington to-morrow*. Mr A. J. headmaster of Wahtham School, who has retired after forty years of teaching experience, was the guest yesterday of the teaching staff of the school. Eulogistic remarks were passed regarding Mr Wickes's ability and personality as a teacher. He was presented with a leather bowlingcase, and Mrs Wickes with a tablelamp. Mr Wickes was educated at the West Christchurch and Greymouth Schools, and has taught at schools in both provinces.
