THE RUGBY GAME.
Wellington Wins Match Against Taranaki. Per Press Association. HAWBRA. June 20. A crowd of between four and five thousand spectators witnessed the Wellington Rugby representatives triumph by a margin of three points over Taranaki in a sparkling display this afternoon. Wellington compiled eighteen points—three converted tries and a goal from a mark. Taranaki registered four unconverted tries and a penalty goal. Both sides played the three-two-three scrum. Taranaki holding the advantage in this department and in general forward play, though Wellington fielded a more impressive rear division. In the first spell, which ended 10-9 in Wellington’s favour, Taranaki had everything in their favour; but on the change-over Wellington gave flashes of brilliant combined movements. The Taranaki forwards tired, while their backs showed more initiative. Their display merited a narrow decision.
