CONSTABLE’S DEATH
Injured in Accident Last Month. AN INQUEST PROBABLE. Constable Harold Henderson, officer in charge of the Linwood police station, died in the Christchurch Hospital this morning. He was admitted to the hospital several weeks ago as the result of an accident in which he was knocked from his bicycle and fractured a leg. While in hospital double pneumonia developed, it is stated, and his condition rapidly became serious. It is probable that an inquest will be held. Constable Henderson was a capable police officer and his death will be deeply regretted. He was a Scotsman by birth, but came to New Zealand in the ’9O s. For a time he was engaged in farming in the Orari district, but in November, 1900, he joined the Police Force at Wellington. He was stationed for various periods at Wellington, Feilding and Lumsden, and he came to Christchurch a number of years ago. He was at the New Brighton station for some time, but recently took charge of the Linwood district. He would have completed 32 years in the force in November of this year. Constable Henderson leaves a widow and eight children.
