CAPTAIN HUNTER DEAD.
Harbourmaster at Port for Ten Years. The death occurred suddenly last evening of Captain T. M. Hunter, harbourmaster at Lyttelton. Captain Hunter had just left Captain J. Crawford, with whom he had walked from the Harbour Board's office, and was entering his residence when he dropped dead. Captain Hunter had appeared to be in good health. Both as an officer 6f the board and as a resident of Lyttelton, Captain Hunter was highly respected, and the announcement of his death last evening came as a shock to his many friends. Captain Hunter was a member of the Onehunga Masonic Lodge. Some twenty-two years ago, he helped to form the Lyttelton Golf Club, and for ‘some time he was secretary. At the time of his death, he was a vicepresident and a life member of the club. He was also an active member of the Christchurch Golf Club. A keen supporter of Rugby football, it is stated that Captain Hunter had not missed a football match at Lancaster Park for several years. It was not generally known that Captain Hunter was most generous to charity, and he also assisted many seamen who were in need. Captain Hunter married Miss C. Cable, of Wellington. He leaves a widow and three daughters, Misses Margaret, Marjorie and Valerie Hunter. Misses Margaret and Marjorie Hunter are studying at Oxford. Flags on all ships in the harbour and on public buildings in Lyttelton were flown at half-mast to-day. An inquest will not be necessary. The funeral will take place at Lyttelton to-morrow at 2.30 p.m.
