METHVEN TROTTING CLUB

Annual Meeting Held. The annual meeting of members of the Methven Trotting Club was held on Monday evening, Mr S. G. Holmes (president) presiding over a good attendance. The annual report, as already published, was adopted. The president, in moving the adoption of the balance-sheet, said it showed that the year had closed with a debit balance of £464 33s Sd, and since the books had closed a rebate in taxation, amounting to £ll2, had been received, which reduced the debit balance at date to £352 13s Sd. They were now in possession of a floating permit for July 9 and with any ordinary amount of luck for this day it was hoped that the overdraft would be further reduced. It was hoped that in the future they would be able to secure the permit and, if so, the club would be in a more favourable position. The motion was seconded by Mr T. S. Harrison and carried unanimously. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr T. S. Harrison for his generous action in offering his property for a hare drive if necessary. Subseqeuent to the meeting, a meeting of the committee was held and :\lr T. fc>. Harrison was unanimously re-elected chairman. ‘ Votes of sympatic were passed to Messrs C. Goodwin and W. W. Goodwin in their recent bereavement. A vote of thanks was accorded the Methven Gun Club for the donation of two guineas to the club’s funds for the use of the racecourse. The secretary reported on the arrangements made for the conduct of the meeting at Ashburton and also for the closing of nominations and acceptances with Mr J. B. Charges for admission to the racecourse were fixed at Is Cd outside, 4s 6d inside cars 2s 6d. members’ cars free; ladies! Is 6d outside. 2s 6d inside. NAMED AFTER PRIME MINISTER. Lady Houston recently registered her first racing success when R. B. Bennett won the Prestbury Welter at Manchester on May 21. R. B. Bennett is a three-year-old colt by Salmon Trout from Irish Mint by'Spearmint. The colt is named after Mr Richard Bedford Bennett, Prime Minister of Canada, whose permission was sought before the name was used.
