RELIEF OF DISTRESS.
Alleged Trading on the Depots. The case of a man who was alleged to have been trading on relief depots, was brought to the notice of five Citizens’ Relief Association last evening, and it was decided to make an example It was stated to the committee that the .man has been receiving assistance from relief depots, while during the past twelve months he has been receiving regular wages. The fact that the response to the Pound Scheme had been very satisfactory and encouraging, was commented on by tlVe acting-director, Mr C. H. Virtue. He stated that so far consignments of goods had been received from the Cashmere, St Albans, Lower Riccarton, Shirley, Papanui and Richmond districts. The scheme had been launched in Woolston, Marshland, Bromley and Beckenham districts.
