“ I don’t think that we should ask for something for nothing nowadays, in view of the financial position of the Government and of the Railway Department,” stated the president (Mr C. M’lntosh) at the annual conference of the North Canterbury executive of the Farmers’ Union yesterday. His remark was occasioned by a remit which urged that farmers should be furnished by the Railway Department with weight certificates showing the correct weight of their produce consigned to merchants. One member stated that the weights could be had for a small charge. The matter was referred to the provincial executive.
