BRIGHTER GOLF GARB.
Cotton Dazzles Competitors at Moortown. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received May 19, 1.50 p.m.) LONDON, May 18. Perhaps with the idea of dazzling the other competitors, Cotton’s contribution to brighter golf at Moortown was a rose-pink pullover, silver grey trousers and blue and yellow spotted cowboy scarf, black and white shoes, and an old brown hat as a mascot. At Moortown golf course the first qualifying round of the Leeds Thousand Guineas tournament was played off. E. R. Whitcombe, 66, and Tom Green, ex-Midlands champion, 67, broke Walter Hagen’s record of 69. Others were:—Twine 69, Denny 70, Havers 72, Compston 74, Padgham 74, Cotton 75, Miyamoto (Japan) 76. Hagen cannot compete in the open championship as his entry was three days late.
