TOWN PLANNING.

Christchurch Branch Holds Annual Meeting. The annual meeting of the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand Town Planning Institute was held last evening, the vice-president, Mr A. R. Galbraith, being in the chair. The second annual report stated that the branch had approached the Walmairi County Council with a view to arranging a conference with the City Council concerning the zoning of shopping areas adjoining the mutual boundaries, and a satisfactory agreement had been reached. The finances of the branch were, at the moment, in a satisfactory condition. The year had begun with a debit balance of 5s sd, and had closed with a credit of £6 19s Id. It was anticipated that the £ls grant from the council might be reduced. It had been hoped that considerably more publicity might be undertaken but it now appeared that that might not be pos-

sible. In the interests of town plan ning in general that was much to b regretted. The following officers were elected:President, Sir R. Heaton Rhodes; vice president, Mr A. R. Galbraith; secre tary, Mr E. Scott; treasurer, Mr A. Fi Bridge; executive committee. Messrs J Cut ten. .1. L. Davies, C. E. Cross. C. FT Barker, R. S. D. Harman and the store tary.
