RICCARTON W.C.T.U.
The monthly meeting- of the Riccarton branch of the W.C.T.U. was held recently, Mrs C. W. Barrell presiding over a large attendance. The devotional exercises were led by Mrs Virtue, one of the foundation members of the union. A large quantity of clothing was brought in for distribution among the needy. Arrangements were made for visiting the Sydenham Union on June 2. Members were reminded of the visit to the Jubilee Home to-day. The president, in introducing the Rev John Allan, explained that May was the month set aside for the furtherance of the peace movement. Mr Allan gave an address on “The Costliness of War.” At the conclusion of the address, questions were asked, and the members reaffirmed their attitude to do everything in their power in the interest of world peace, and again affiliate with the League of Nations Union. Votes of thanks were passed to the speaker for his address. Afternoon tea' was served by Mrs Buckley.
