WRITER FAREWELLED.
Mrs Victor Macky Given Afternoon. Mrs Victor Macky (Edna Graham Macky), who is well known in New Zealand as a writer and poet, was the guest of honour at a farewell party given by the members of the League of Penwomen in their rooms in Auckland last week.' Mrs Macky is leaving on Friday for a visit to England and America. Among those present were Mrs Percy Berry, an English writer, at present on a visit to Auckland, and her daughter, Mrs Granville, who also writes children’s stories and poems, Mrs Norman Smith, wife of the speed king, and Mrs F. Restall, who has recently returned from a trip to England. During the afternoon Mrs Stuart Boyd presented Mrs .Macky, in the name of the club, with a wallet and a substantial enclosure, with the good wishes of the members for a very happy voyage and the hope that she would buy something which she ardently desired, as a keepsake. In speaking on the matter, Mrs Boyd said how much the league was indebted to Mrs Macky, who was the originator of the movement which gave birth to the League of Penwomen, and how she had always done her best to forward the interests of the league at all times. She washed her a happy trip and a happy return at the end of six months, when it was her intention to be home once more.
