Fifteen thousand members of the Republican “Iron Front” organisation, demonstrating outside the former Imperial Palace, pledged themselves to support von Ilindenburg for the Presidency. Political prophets refrain from mathematical forecasts, believing that the personality of the candidate will be a more important factor than party, but Colonel T. Duesterburg and the Communist, Ilerr E. Thaelmann. may poll enough votes to prevent either von Hindenburg or Hitler securing an absolute majority in the first ballot. Von Him denburg’s great asset is the personal devotion of millions of war veterans who will support him irrespective of politics. «
