ROLL NUMBER 1156.

Technical College Board of Governors Meet. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT. Mr M’Gregor Wright presided at a meeting of the Christchurch Technical College Board of Governors held at the college last evening. In his report the chairman expressed his pleasure at the appointment of Mr Pascoe to the Commission for the development of New Zealand industries. He also, on behalf of the board, congratulated Mr J. XV. Graham on his election to the position of president of llie Master Builders’ Federation. In moving a resolution that a letter should be sent to the School of Art congratulating it upon the attainment of its fiftieth anniversary, Mr Wright referred to the notable contribution its pupils had made towards the progress of New Zealand art. The resolution was adopted. “ The principal's report stated that the roll number of the ofcllege was now approximately 1156, or 100 in excess of the number last year. Two relieving teachers had been appointed to cope with the larger school. The number of pupils who had matriculated last year and had not been able to obtain positions, was larger than usual. Most were working for Higher Leaving Certificates and several were taking up the professional subjects’ for the Accountancy Diploma. The reports of the Agriculture, Buildings and Appointments Committees were adopted. The report of the Finance Committee stated that it had received and adopted the treasurer’s financial statement for the period January 1 to February IS, showing receipts amounting to £2732 17s 7d, and expenditure of £1763 17s 9d. There was a total credit balance of £IO2O 7s. The report also stated that the financial position of the two hostels, where the numlfer of boarders had been considerably reduced, had been considered. It was found that large reductions had been made in the cost of carrying on.
