THE SOCIAL ROUND.

Gatherings Held in Town and Suburbs. , VISITOR HONOURED. At the residence of Mr and Mrs T. Jamieson, St Albans, Mesdames Buchanan and Jamieson were joint hostesses at a welcome evening held in honour of Miss Irene Carey, Melbourne, who is spending two or three weeks in Christchurch. The rooms were artistically decorated with Chinese lanterns and greenery. Mrs Buchanan received the guests wearing a becoming frock of black georgette relieved with pale pink. Mrs Jamieson wore a dainty frock of apricot lace, with georgette coatee to match. Miss Irene Carey was wearing a pretty ensemble of flowered ninon. Competitions, musical items and dancing combined to make the evening an enjoyable one. A lucky spot fox-trot was won by Miss Heather Sherris and Mr P. Cant. Those present were: Mr and Mrs Foster, Air and Airs Buchanan, Air and Airs Jamieson, Air and Airs Ridden, Air and Airs Penrose, Misses Ivy Al’Kellar, Leila Bray, Alolly Anderson, Irene Carey, Alice Tait, Kathleen Henderson, Alarie Crompton, Aluriel Fellowes (Sydney), Irene Grant, Lily Rylatt, Veronica Kent, Alattie Hemp, Heather Sherris, Carmen Carruthers, Alessrs Lionel Jackson, Henry Carew, Ivan Carey, T. Kent, Allan Blight, H. Barnes, Barry Henderson, N. Thompson, R. Davies, J. Andrews, Kevin Patrick, Alajor Andrew, Roderick Adair and Charles Eames. Party. At their home, Linwood Avenue, Mr and Mrs R. G. Bradley recently entertained a large number of friends, the occasion being the coming-of-age of their eldest daughter, Mai. Games and competitions were enjoyed by those present. Music for the dancing was supplied by Messrs J. M’Neale (piano) and W. Gray (violin). A Monte Carlo dance was won by Mr and Mrs J. Robb.

Silver Wedding Celebrated. An enjoyable evening was recently held in the Rechabite Hall, St Asaph Street, Linwood, to celebrate the silver v edding of Mr and Mrs William Martin. Games, dancing and competitions were enjoyed. Competitions were won by Misses Sears and L. Southam, Messrs Suter (2), Martin and Dwight. Mrs Ross-Smith and Mr D. Barliss provided the music. Mr P. Yardley was M.C. Musical items were given by Miss F. Kenyon entertained friends at a social evening at their home in Good Street. A progressive euchre prize was won by Mr A. Hunnibell and Messrs C. J. Keir and C H. Thornton were the winners of competitions. Musical items were given by Messrs T. A. Ambrose and C. J. Keir, Mr Hunnibell acting as pianist. An interesting exhibition of .card manipulation was given by Mr Frank Powell. After supper Mr Ambrose, on behalf of his fellow boarders presented Mrs Kenyon with a Royal Doulton sandwich set as a token of esteem. A pleasant evening was brought to a close by the singing of “For They are Jolly Good Fellows,” and “Auld Lang Syne.”
