CHEVIOT SPORTS.
J. G. Stack Wins Principal Cycling Races. B. AYSON RUNS WELL. The Cheviot Sports, held on Saturday, proved very successful. The club, which has been in existence for several years, has previously conducted the sports under the rules of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. This year a change was made and the programme was held under the rules of the New Zealand Athletic. Cycling and Axemen’s Union. The nominations for the open cash events drew large entries, the bulk of the competitors coming from Christchurch. The cycling track was dusty and the back-markers had great difficulty in negotiating it. There were several spills, but no one was hurt. The most successful cyclist was J. G. Stack, of Kaikoura, who won the two miles handicap and the five miles Cheviot wheel race. B. Ayson, of Christchurch, was in good form, winning the 220yds handicap, the 135yds Sheffield handicap and,the 100yds handicap. Additional results: — FIVE MILES CHEVIOT WHEEL RACE. J. G. Stack 1 F.
