CHARGE OF BIGAMY.
Canadian Remanded to Dunedin. James Palmer, who appeared before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning, was charged with committing bigamy at Dunedin, in 1928. Chief-Detective Carroll said that the accused was a Canadian. He had been married in that country and came to New Zealand some years ago. At Dunedin in 1928 he entered into a contract of marriage with another woman. His defence would probably be that he believed his first wife to be dead. The accused was remanded to appear at Dunedin on January 8. He was released on his own recognisance in the sum of £SO.
