DOCTOR’S SACRIFICE.
Inoculates Himself with Fatal Serum. COURT CASE SENSATION. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received December 21, 11 a.m.) LONDON, December 20. Professor Deycke, who is charged at Lubeck •frith the death of seventy-six babies, caused a sensation in Court when he announced that he had innoculated himself with the Calmette serum in order to prove that the children’s deaths were due to his mistake. His family are watching Professor Deycke, who declares: “I am perfectly certain of survival, but that will not restore the life of those poor babies. Should I die I shall at least be spared the unspeakable horrors of this case.” Professor Deycke inoculated the children with Calmette anti-tuberculosis serum, and the majority died. Professor Deycke protested in Court that he alone was to blame, and that he had made a mistake in the serum.
